Dress up Costumes - Be Who You Want to Be

Everyone loves a good story.  In ancient times, stories were the only real form of entertainment aside from games. What gives a good story the power to captivate and stimulate imagination are the characters.  Thus, the clothes are always related to the character.  In fact, the clothes can become so iconic that they tell the entire story in themselves. Characters in stories are excellent bases for dress up costumes.

Dress up characters are symbolized through costumes and clothes.  With dress up costumes, you can pretend to be part of the story.  There are times of the year when this becomes popular, like Halloween.  Halloween dress up costumes are a tradition for children and to a same degree for adults.  Fancy dress parties may be held at any time of the year, and they are equally popular among children and adults; it gives them an excuse to pretend to be someone other than who they really are.  

Dress up costumes are defined in appearance, color, and proportions.  This is because they are based on specific characters as described by their creators.  The costume is the character, and the character is the story.  When you put on a dress up character costume, you are using the personality traits of the character as your own, so it would be best to act the part.  Playing the part makes it more fun for everyone, who can then revel in imagination and enjoy the fantasies.

Stories are multifarious and varied, and it is the same for the characters.  Dress up characters can be loosely categorized according to the “type” of the character, but each costume will still invoke one specific character’s image.

Superheroes are icons of power.  You can dress up as a superhero with your own set of superpowers and personality traits.  You can choose to wear a Superman costume, Spiderman costume, the sexy Wonderwoman costume, or whoever your favorite superhero is. There are many superhero dress up costumes to choose from.  This dichotomy of different heroes in different countries can also add flavor and choices to the spectrum of costumes.

Dress up costumes also represent a character and the setting they exist in.  For period costumes, you can choose to wear a Victorian gown costume, pirate costume, caveman costume, or how about a space traveler costume?  The place of the story can also be “read” from the costume’s looks.

You can also wear non-human dress up costumes.  Fancy Dress Costumes like that of giant monsters scaled down for practical purposes, aliens, animals, and other humanoids fall into this category.  Vampires, werewolves, acid-spitting alien ravagers, and people-stomping giant lizards are some such costume themes.

Lastly, there are costumes of characters in this world and time.  These dress up characters may be costumes related to professions, or the ordinary-looking clothes of characters with extraordinary stories: nun costumes, schoolgirl costumes, fireman costumes, policeman costumes and many more.
