50s Fashion – 50s Costumes

In the 1950's, 50s fashion meant women wore full skirts, tight fitting blouses and capri pants also known as pedal pushers. The 1950’s are also known for its two silhouettes, the full skirt and the pencil slim tubular skirt, both focusing on the narrowness of the waistline.

1950s fashion was influenced by rock n roll. 50s costumes reflect this time. Full poodle skirts in bright colours with appliqué poodles were the norm. 50s fashion meant makeup was minimal with pressed powder as foundation, eyebrows usually narrowed, blush and eyeshadow minimal to give a soft feminine natural look. Makeup was more dramatic for the evening, with eyeliner used on the upper lid for a more highly defined contour.
