Ringmaster Costume
The Queen of Halloween has had a busy, busy time of it lately, what with trying to move into a new home and trying to keep herself looking oh so fabulous in the meantime plus dealing with the royal bratlings. Oh, and when the Queen gets a free minute she is also trying to find a publisher or a boyfriend. Whew, it does sound like a little bit of a circus when its all listed like that, right? Maybe the Queen should don a ringmaster costume so that she can gain control of the chaos once and for all!
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the ringmaster costume, especially those who have not gone to the circus in a long time, here is a quick refresher course. First, the ringmaster is the one who gets everyone’s attention and directs them to the ring where the most exciting act is currently being performed. In a three ring circus you can watch what interests you until you get a little bored and then watch something else. The ringmaster is the person who keeps the action moving along, bantering with the crowd and keeping everyone’s energy high as well. The ultimate showman, the ringmaster can keep you glued to your seat because that is his job.
The ringmaster costume starts with a red jacket with long tails, white button down shirt and a bow tie. White pants, fitted at the knees and long black boots are the finishing touches, but if you cannot find the right type of pants, you can tuck them into the boots. Women ringmasters can wear leggings to get the same look as well. A top hat is a great accessory and a great mustache should also be considered.
The purchased costume will have the jacket, pants and bow tie but not the boots. If you have serious problems getting items to fit correctly when you buy them this way, you might consider looking for just the jacket and using other pants.
To give your ringmaster costume a real air of authenticity, you can speak in a loud, booming voice, announcing everything as you go. “Ladies and gentleman, John Turner is now entering the living room in search of chips and salsa. In our center ring, Liz Michaels is scarfing down shrimp like they have been declared illegal and in our far ring, Dave Michaels is talking to that new girl, Sharon in a most flirtatious manner!” Be careful what you say though or your ringmaster costume may have to pull double duty as a lion tamer get up when you separate the feuding Michaels family.
