Before you gather all of your friends and start doing the Time Warp, you are going to need to stop and actually plan your Rocky Horror Picture Show party. The more planning that you do before hand, the more fun you will have during the event. After all, you don’t want to be racing around filling bowls or stirring pots in the kitchen when you can be in the living room or basement taking a “step to the left and then a jump to the right…”
A Rocky Horror Picture Show Movie Night Party
One of the easiest and most obvious parties to throw centers around the movie itself. If you don’t own it or do not have a friend that you can borrow from, you can rent it, but if your friends are real fans, it makes sense to make that purchase. This is one of those movies that you can watch every week without ever getting sick of it. Learn the extra lines and the side bits and it gets even better.
Here are some tips for the movie night Rocky Horror Picture Show party:
1. Choose an area to have your party that is easy to clean, especially if you plan to throw things at the screen.
2. Make sure that everyone who is invited either has a good idea of what to expect or a very good sense of humor. One of the fun parts of the Rocky Horror experience is chasing the “virgins” around until they get to their seat.
3. Keep in mind that this is not a movie for the younger crowd, so make sure that parents know it is adults only.
4. Gather your props before the party, keeping in mind all the things that you will need. (This gives you an excuse to watch the movie to refresh your mind!)
When you send out the invitations, make sure that you also let people know if you want them to dress in rocky horror costumes or not. (What kind of party would it be if no one dresses?)
What Kind of Foods Should You Serve at a Rocky Horror Picture Show Party?
Your food choices can range from heavy, full meals to lighter, finger foods. Just don’t make it meatloaf! Here are some suggestions:
1. Frankenfurters (naturally) with or without buns.
2. Tasty Chicken Wings
3. Magenta’s Potato Bites (Magenta is a voyeur who sings about watching others. Get it? Potatoes- eyes!)
4. Rocky’s Tub of Goo (Use various colors of gelatin and layer it with whipped topping for a pretty dessert that looks like the vat that FrankNfurter is “cooking” Rocky in.)
You can make Time Warp Punch using your favorite punch recipe. If you would prefer to make individual cocktails you can do that as well.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a truly memorable movie that encouraged a cult following. There are many costume ideas and that means a lot of fun, so get started now and plan a party that will be remembered by your guests for many years to come.
